Bill Dunnington, 77, of Baytown was born November 8, 1931 in Texarkana and passed away Sunday, October 18, 2009 in a local hospital. He retired with the rank of Major from the U. S. Air Force in 1971. He was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, Calcasieu, LA Masonic Lodge #400, Crosby American Legion Post #658 and the Baytown Senior Citizens Softball League. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, outdoorsman and square dancer. He was a member of the Bayshore Wagon Wheels and Strawberry Squares Square Dancing Clubs for 36 years. He was also a civilian volunteer for the Baytown Police Department for 20 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas F. Dunnington and Hazel Traylor Dunnington; sister and brother-in-law, Tommye and Sylvester Garrison; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ted and Nelda O'Conor. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Myra Dunnington of Baytown; sons and daughters-in-law, Joel and Glenna Dunnington of Missouri City and Robert and Edith Dunnington of Albuquerque, NM; grandchildren and their spouses, Tim and Lynn Dunnington of Madison, WI, John and Helen Dunnington of Houston and David Dunnington of San Antonio; great granddaughter, Ginny Dunnington; nieces, Sylvia Cooper of Amsterdam, The Netherlands and Susan Jentho and Sheryl Halter, both of Baytown; and nephew, Thomas O'Conor of Bossier City, LA.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, October 22, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 3811 N. Main, Baytown, TX 77521 with Rev. Mike Proctor officiating. Graveside services with military honors will follow at 3:00 p.m. at the Prien Memorial Park in Lake Charles, LA.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim, John and David Dunnington, Steven McDonald, Matt McDonald and Sparks Dorris. Honorary pallbearers will be Hayes Dorris and Steve Scott.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to St. Mark's United Methodist Church or the charity of one's choice.
